What is Skyhammer?

Skyhammer is an Exotic aerial gunship / Sky Fortress released in 2024. It is a VTOL aircraft, meaning it can hover and change altitude without behaving like a conventional fixed-wing fighter.

Its role is unusual: it is not primarily a dogfighter. Instead, it dominates ground targets through sustained laser-cannon pressure and an orbital strike that can hit targets through structures.

Orbital Laser Strike

The Skyhammer's signature secondary weapon is the Orbital Laser Strike. The current value tracker describes it as the only vehicle with this normal orbital-strike ability and notes that it can kill players even when they are under bunker cover.

The Military Tycoon Wiki likewise describes the strike as capable of bypassing walls and instantly destroying many ground vehicles.

How the orbital strike works

The documented Orbital Laser Strike has a short 3-second charge time. Once fired, its targeting line is fixed, so the pilot must lead moving targets rather than expecting the beam to keep tracking them.

This creates a very clear strength and weakness: the strike is devastating if the target remains inside the marked line, but fast targets can dodge by moving sideways before the beam finishes.

Best targets for the Orbital Laser Strike

• tanks and armored vehicles that are stationary or moving predictably;
• players hiding inside structures or bunkers;
• vehicles fighting near a base or objective;
• high-value ground targets already distracted by another fight;

Why the laser cannon is dangerous

Why does Skyhammer show low general Damage?

How to use Skyhammer in PvP

1. Hunt ground vehicles

2. Fight at close-to-medium range with the cannon

The rapid-fire cannon's spread gets worse at long range. Close the distance enough that the high fire rate can compensate for its lower per-shot damage.

3. Lead the Orbital Laser Strike

The strike cannot adjust after it is fired. Aim ahead of moving targets and use it when the enemy has limited room to dodge.

4. Use VTOL to hold a good firing angle

Hovering lets you keep a stable position over a battlefield while the cannon and orbital strike pressure ground targets.

5. Reposition during reloads

The documented 10-second reload is long enough for an enemy fighter or anti-air vehicle to punish you if you stay still.

Is Skyhammer worth keeping?

For gameplay, Skyhammer is extremely useful. Functionality 9/10, strong anti-ground pressure, VTOL movement and the unique orbital strike give it far more practical value than many items in the same Gem range.
